Who is Escape Kitty?

Let me introduce myself. I am Escape Kitty.

I got my start on Sept 1, 2010 as I was out playing in the yard enjoying the birds and squirrels. Really just minding my own business. Happy. Content. Daydreaming.

When, but in an instant, I caught a movement in the corner of my eye. Since cats are noted for their superior vision, I had to do a double take because I thought my eyesight had failed me. I shut my kitty eyes for a moment and reopened them to disbelief.

A coyote? In MY yard? Could it be? And he's drooling my way? Move move move! Find my mom . Run to safety.

Big mistake! Really big mistake. Now she never lets me outside. Done - left to dream. ahhhhh but Kitty dreams really do come true.

So come follow me! I am off to Escape.

Design Team Call - Scraps Of Elegance and Scraps Of Darkness

Scraps of Darkness and Scraps of Elegance kit clubs are looking for designers to add to our talented Design Teams!
Commitment is important, so we want to be straightforward with what we are looking for. We want to see ambitious, outgoing, computer savvy scrappers who share the same love as we do.

These positions will start with our May 2012 kits and end with our October 2012 kits.
This call is open to both US and International. Please note international members will share in the cost of shipping their kits to them.
Please visit our blog to view this call in its entirety. You can find all the information you need here at Scraps of Darkness and here at Scraps Of Elegance.

Thanks and Best of Luck.
  Humans need only apply!

I added that part.  I don't want squirrels and cute face-licking puppies to take over my Mascot position).   Only one pet needs to have a big ego and I really prefer that to be me.

Now go and have a puuuuuurfect day and get those applications in.

Scraps Of Darkness March Reveal, Needful Things - Episode #41 - When Pigs Fly and Cats Swim

Welcome to Reveal Day for Scraps Of Darkness March Kit called Needful Things, and to Episode #41 - When Pigs Fly and Cats Swim.
Very interesting name for this kit and so fitting for Miss Kitty. This is indeed, an unique kit featuring the Graphics45 papers Olde Curiosity Shoppe. Fun, colorful, whimsical and unusual- puuurfectly Kitty style.

Once again, Kitty would boast that this kit was named with her in mind.
Have you noticed that Escape Kitty can turn almost anything around to be all about her?  That little cat
has a gigantic amount of cat-itude.

Kitty's sporting a new look for this episode. In Episode #40, she parachuted in the beautiful sparkling ocean.  I knew she had to have a plan.  Kitty doesn't do things unless she has some type of plan floating about her little furry head.

She grabbed a swim mask, some fins and a snorkel.  I am hoping Kitty can out swim the sharks but knowing Kitty as I do, if she can't out swim the sharks, she can absolutely outsmart them and perhaps dazzle them with her charm in an effort to buy her time to paddle to shore.

If there is one thing Escape Kitty does well, other than darting for the door and breaking free, it's making friends.  She's befriended a wolf, a bear, a moose, a kangaroo and many birds so I have no doubt she can reason with a great white.

I noticed that Kitty only brought two flippers for her back paws so I imagine she's gonna "dog paddle" with the front two.  What a mental image that conjures for me!  Legs kicking, arms flopping, paddle Kitty, Paddle!

When you dry off, you should think about meeting up with Chena.  She's probably worried abut you.

This was created using the wonderful Scraps Of Darkness March Kit.  This may well be my favorite kit yet. Please take a look at the Scraps Of Darkness kit and see what whimsy you can create.

This was created using the March SOD sketch design by artist suepup, Charlotte Jenkins.  Thanks Charlotte.

I used the Dusty Attic Shells 6pk DA0048.  I used some Extra Thick Gesso for texture then covered
with Shimmerz Enamlez in Sparkliscious. Then I topped the wet Enamlez with some blue micro beads.

Here is a close up of Escape Kitty in her sporty "get-up".

Thanks to Maggi Harding for her whimsical collaboration on this Kitty/Chena series.  While Chena is not decked out in swim gear for this episode, she remains faithfully on the beach waiting for her travel companion to finish up her silliness and dry off.  I suspect that Miss Chena, the Standard Poodle with certain standards, does her fair amount of waiting around.  So thanks dear Maggi.  Check out Maggi's talent and her artistic flair like no other.  Scrap Travel and Bark.

Also one more shout out to Maryanne Stanford, aka Oziem for making this Australian journey possible.

Thanks for looking.

Episode #40 - Daredevil Kitty - Scraps Of Elegance

Episode #40 - Daredevil Kitty - created using the Scraps Of Elegance March Kit, Butterfly Dreams.

In Episode #39, Kitty, Chena, and their new friend Kangaroo took a day to enjoy the lovely scenic Nullabor Bluffs and have a nice picnic by the sea.

Who are the characters in this photo, you might ask?  Chena is a pup owned by fellow artist, Maggi Harding.  Maggi kindly allows Chena to sight see with Miss Kitty.  I have to believe that Chena is the sensible one of the pair and a pup of certain "standards".  She is a Standard Poodle after all which must mean something.    I have no idea who owns the Kangaroo, but a  new friend is a new friend.

This time, I think Kitty was too fast for even Chena to speak up.  Before anyone could say "NO Kitty, Don't",  Kitty started digging around in the Kangaroo's pouch for the parachute she brought with her. Wondering how she even fit all that into the Kangaroos pouch?

A parachute?   Really Kitty?  Made with belt straps - ingenious but crazy.  It's plumb amazing that Kitty could get those belts fastened so quickly with her furry paws and no thumbs.  I bet she had practiced this a hundred times over for Kitty puuuurfection.

Well, it worked and off she sailed with one big Kitty leap, parachute all puffed up with air and softly floating her to the sea below.  You do realize that ya gotta swim now Kitty.  I've never seen Kitty swim and I imagine she's all splashes, cat paws flailing and kicking like crazy.  Here's an interesting thought...does Kitty do the dog paddle?

This design was based on a Round Robin Challenge at Scraps of Darkness/Scraps Of Elegance created by our wonderfully creative member, Violent Kittie, Lee.  Escape Kitty and Violent Kittie have become quite chummy.  Lee is a doll and super talented so we thought we would have fun lifting her design.  Please go check out her talent.
This was created using the Scraps Of Elegance Butterfly Dreams Kit.  This month was gorgeous and had a bit of whimsy in it for Kitty.    Please check the kit out and join us.  It's purrfectly coordinated to take all the painstaking headache out of trying to get papers and embelllies to coordinate.
I used some cool trim I had to represent clouds.

The photo once again is courtesy of Maryanne Stanford, aka Oziem. Thanks Maryanne for the kindness in sending me your wonderful photos for Escape Kitty to use. Maryanne is also a beloved artistic strength at Scrapbook.com.  Please check her gallery about and be prepared for an amazing eye full.

Thanks also to Maggi Harding and her sweetheart of a dog, Chena.  I have been fortunate enough to meet Chena in real life and take photos of this splendid dog.  She is a snuggly doll and more human like than dog.  She's apparently more well traveled than most humans.

Here is Maggi's blog, Scrap, Travel and Bark.  Please hop over there and check out her creative mind.  It's amazing.
It's always fun collaborating with Maggi.

Thanks for looking.

Escape Kitty and Chena and the Treasure Chest - by Maggi Harding

Escape Kitty and Chena by Maggi Harding - created for the ** Flying Unicorn CT**

Maggi sent me this!  Oh my goodness, the trouble those two get in.  Looks like Kitty and Chena need to step away from the "Gangsta pirate element".    This pirate is packing.  Grab the jewels and run, lil darlins.  RUN!!

Here is what Maggi writes:
Sooooo….where DID Chena and Escape Kitty find that treasure chest? Oh those two, they’ve been sailing the high seas and roaming around the wilds of Australia for the last couple of months (they’ve got Jen’s credit card this time, HA HA) Looks like they stumbled on the Black Pearl and found the Deadman’s Chest. Hmm, the least you could of done Chena, was gotten a photo with Johnny Depp in it!! And are you bringing me some of those jewels, you know you could get out of debt that way.

Did either of you notice that your “comrade” there is holding a pistol in his hand?? Do you know why they call that a deadman’s chest? You kids need to get some smarts and watch who you’re hanging out with!! You are a dog and a cat, you really are not pirates my loves, you really need to get a reality check!!!! Please come home Chena, I am worried about your sweet furry face and Miss Kitty, she isn’t a pirate, she’s a sweet little cat and she belongs home with Stay Behind Cat.

Hopefully this photo means the girls are sailing home from the wilds of Australia. Sail safe Kitty, Chena be nice, don’t end up in the brig!!
Maggi took this photo while on vacation in Florida.  Cracks me up!  Johnny Depp was not available so she got the next best pirate to sit for a photo.    Don't those pets look so darn cute?

Please check out Maggi's blog, Scrap, Travel, and Bark for more stories, technique and inspiration.  She is an amazing artist with the creativity and imagination only surpassed by the likes of Kitty and Chena.

Escape Kitty - Opposites - CSI-Color, Stories, Inspiration Case File #10 and Dusty Attic

Escape Kitty - Opposites
Meet the Kitty's up close and personal.
This layout was created to give you an up close and personal look at Escape Kitty and her cat sibling, StayBehindCat. The challenge for the CSI-Colors Stories, Inspiration case File #10 was to journal opposites. Well, well, well, my kitties popped right into my mind.  I can't think of two complete opposites that live together in relative harmony -except when one wants to sit in the window and it is being occupied by the other.

Escape  Kitty                                                 StayBehindCat
Nickname- Kitty or EK                                                      Nickname - Butterfly Daydreamer
Girl                                                                                        Boy
Finicky eater                                                                      Nothing finicky at all about this chow hound
Loves the outside                                                            Loves his cat bed
Tries to bolt out the door at every opportunity        Doesn't even care if  the door is open
Can jump on a dresser 6 ft high                                  Can barely jump on my lap.  He's a non-jumper
Favors her daddy                                                           Favors his mommy
Got a wild adventurous streak                                    Big 'ol coward
Larger than life Kitty ego                                           Maybe he has a cat ego when he is dreaming?
Super fast                                                                        Can't run at all.

This was created for CSI- Colors, Stories, Inspiration Case File #10 and I used the Dusty Attic March Sketch designed my Michelle Grant.  Have to say that Michelle has such a unique flair to her sketches.

I used the Dusty Attic Decorative Scroll #1, DA0213 for this.  I opted to paint them contrasting colors to represent my opposite Kitties. Red for EK and Olive for StayBehindCat.

These are the particulars:
EVIDENCE DETAILS
  • metal, as inspired by the lantern
  • glass or glass-like elements, as inspired by the lantern
  • use contrasting textures

JOURNALING DETAILS (TESTIMONY)
  • Compare two people/things/events, etc. using contrasting (i.e., listing the differences)--this is inspired by the many contrasts in this image.

Thanks for looking and reading.

Scraps Of Elegance - Butterfly Dreams and Escape Kitty Episode #39

Scraps Of Elegance Butterfly Dreams
Welcome to the Scraps Of Elegance March Reveal
Butterflies - oh how Kitty loves butterflies. They can add hours of delight and busy time to her day....if only she could go outside and enjoy them.  Yeah, that comment was directed towards Kitty's front door "warden", Jennifer.  She's definitely squashing Kitty's butterfly fun - so this kit is the puuuuuuurfect substitution.

We are so happy and honored to have Patty Rogers guest designing with us this month.  You may also know Patty by her "online" name - Asassyscrapper.

Escape Kitty Episode #39 - Kitty, Chena and Friend at Nullabor Cliffs

In Episode #37( Kitty is a Kangaroo Joey), Kitty snuggled into a Kangaroo pouch and took a ride to where ever the Kangaroo was headed.  Apparently he was headed here, to Nullabor Cliffs for some sightseeing and a picnic lunch.  Poor little Chena had to hoof it the whole way while Kitty kicked back in style.

Now Kitty is a master at jumping and leaping amazing heights however her Kangaroo friend and personal transportation assistant has told Kitty that the cliffs come with a posted warning sign to stay away from the edge.  Chena's in charge of keeping Kitty away and safe.

This is a breezy, peaceful sight seeing day for the group.

Wait.  What is she doing?  Is that a parachute that Kitty is pulling from the Kangaroo's pouch?  Noooooooooooooooooooooooo Kitty........................

This location is also called The Bunda cliffs is an aboriginal name [1] which has been used in South Australia for the name of the Nullarbor coastal cliffs. The usage is not included in national geographic name databases - but the usage is general in South Australia [2] [3]
The Bunda cliffs extend for around 100 km along the Great Australian Bight near its northern extremity and are close to the Nullarbor Plain in a very sparsely settled area of Australia.

This photo was sent to me by Maryanne Stanford, aka Oziem.  Thanks so much for your generous and scenic photos, Maryanne.

The wonderful butterflies are included in the kit and are from Renea Harrison's etsy shop. She hand makes them and these were custom made for the papers.

Here is the sketch from Charlotte Jenkins, aka suepup.  Thanks Charlotte for your continued inspiration and assistance in making scrapping much easier by doing the thinking for us - a Kitty's delight for sure.

Thanks for visiting and spending time here.  I appreciate this a great deal.  Have a puuuuuurfect day.

Escape Kitty - Those Eyes

Those Eyes - created using the Scraps Of Darkness, Feb. Victoriana Kit.
The is a close up of Escape Kitty.  She looks like a little tiger, doesn't she?
The Victoriana Kit papers were so completely puuuurfect for this photo.  Knowing Kitty as well as I do, she believes she captures the essence of the Victorian cat in all her elegant mouse catching romance.   OK Kitty, if that's what you believe!  You go right on believing that.  I'm not about to stop you, as if I could.

This is Kitty's best sulty look for the camera.  She refused to smile.   Kitty firmly believes that showing teeth in her photos is NOT the best look for her.

Below, Kitty has selected the Dusty Attic Twigs, 4pk, inked them with Tim Holtz Vintage Photo distressing ink, then Tim Holtz Mustard distressing ink.  I embellished with some leaves, Yellow stickles glitter glue and some floral beads.

More close ups.
